2022 Field Season Projects

The Idaho Wilderness Foundation had a busy field season this year. We provided pack support for three separate projects and groups, totaling four pack assists into the Pioneer Mountains and one pack assist to the headwaters of Goose Creek (Oakley Idaho). Our mules got a workout this season!

Project ONE

April - Goose Creek

IWF provided pack support for the Bureau of Land Management with Back Country Horsemen to transport fencing supplies to the headwaters of Goose Creek (Oakley, Idaho) before the onset of grazing season. It was a quick trip, however it prepared the IWF team, mules included, for the coming months.

July and August

In July and August, IWF had four pack trips with two different groups. All of these trips were in Copper Basin (Pioneer Mountains) along the Jarvis Trail. The Student Conservation Association and the Montana Conservation Corps, in conjunction with the USFS, planned to create a new trail from Bellas Lake to Clear Lake.

Project TWO - Pack in SCA (Clear Lake)

July 5th

IWF packed in 3 weeks' worth of supplies for a seven-person Student Conservation Association crew including tools, food, and camping gear. While they planned to work towards Clear Lake from Bellas Lake, they had to work backwards due to snow at Bellas.

Project THREE - Pack in MCC (Clear Lake)

July 6th

IWF packed in additional tools and supplies for the Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) crew of six people into Clear Lake to work in conjunction with the SCA crew to create a new trail that would connect Bellas Lake with Clear Lake and extend the Jarvis trail system by over a mile.

Project THREE - Phase TWO - Pack out MCC

July 25th

IWF brought back the mules to pack out the MCC crew with their tools and supplies from Bellas Lake after having completed a large portion of the new trail.

Project TWO - Phase TWO - Pack out SCA

August 8th

IWF brought back the mules to pack out the SCA crew with their tools and supplies from Bellas Lake after having completed the remaining portion of the new trail that connects Bellas Lake and Clear Lake.

A special shoutout and thanks to IWF friend and supporter- Nancy!

A fellow trail companion and the reason we have all these photos!
